Awards and Special Recognitions
I am humbled by God and grateful to have received official citations from the United States Senate and the Senate of Maryland. In 2019, I was the first woman to receive the prestigious Malcom X Hero Award from the Caucus of African American Leaders, was nominated for the 2019 TWIN Award and selected as a Trailblazer in the area of eliminating racism and empowering women by the YWCA. For Kathy’s Sake/ C.A.S.T. were selected as the 2019 Business of The Year and in early 2020 I received the George Phelps Jr. Distinguished Citizen Award for my contributions to the citizens of AAC County, especially its youth, and from the County Executive I received the Michele Obama Citation from Her Story Award. In 2021 I received the prestigious Fannie Lou Hammer Award. In 2022, the American Civil Liberties Union of Maryland presented me a Maryland General Assembly Official Citation signed by Senator Jill Carter that described me as having made invaluable contributions toward police reform and "tireless advocacy for improved public safety for all Marylanders".
